Omote-Daisetsu Area

The Omote-Daisetsu Area covers the vast area stretching from the mountains surrounding Ohachidaira to Mt.Tomuraushi, and includes Mt.Asahidake, the highest peak in Hokkaido. Ropeways, acting as entrances to Daisetsuzan, extend half way up Mt.Kurodake and Mt.Asahidake. Asahikawa is the gateway city, facilitating access to the National Park by bus or JR line.

Visitor Centers and Facilities

Sounkyo Visitor Center

Sounkyo Visitor Center exists to promote interaction with and conservation of the nature of Daisetsuzan National Park through nature-based learning and experiences. There are several displays and exhibits in the center, providing information on nature walks and hiking trails in the area.

Asahidake Visitor Center

The Asahidake Visitor Center provides information on guided tours, mountain conditions, and sightseeing opportunities in the Mt.Asahidake area.
The museum also offers an immersive VR experience that allows visitors to virtually experience hiking in the area. Experiences include “The Origin of Daisetsuzan,” “Daisetsuzan: Blessed with Water,” and “The Beautiful Snow Crystals of Daisetsuzan.”

Brown Bear Information Center The Brown Bear Information Center is the management base for the entire Daisetsuzan National Wildlife Protection Area. The Center houses exhibits and displays about the behavior of brown bears living in the Kogen Onsen area, as well as information on the ecology of brown bears and alpine plants. It's a great place for visitors to learn about the area before hiking. The Center is the entrance to the Kogen Onsen Numa-Meguri Loop Hike.
